On Sunday, the North Texas Chapter of Texas Humane Legislation Network will welcome John Goodwin, Manager of Animal Fighting Issues for the Humane Society of the United States. John is a nationally recognized expert on animal fighting issues who has been involved in the passage of both state and federal legislation to curb animal fighting. Additionally, he played a major role in the outlawing of cockfighting in Louisiana and New Mexico, which were the last two states to ban the bloodsport. Goodwin’s investigative efforts have led to the arrests of thousands of individuals involved in illegal animal fighting rings. John will discuss the cockfighting bill now pending in the Texas legislature and share stories of his experiences battling animal fighting across the country.
John will be joined by THLN’s executive director Monica Hardy, who will provide updates on other pending bills including the Large Scale Commercial Breeder bill aimed at fighting puppy mills.
