Denton Animal Shelter Foundation‘s third annual Tails and Trails 10K/5K/1 Mile Pet Walk & Festival will be held on Saturday, October 20th at the North Texas Fairgrounds, from 7:30 am to noon.
In addition to a 1 mile Pet Walk, there will be a 5K run and new this year, a more challenging 10K run. The event also includes free live entertainment by national TV star, Eddie Coker, and DJ Mobile Music will be spinning tunes throughout the day. Back by popular demand are: pumpkin painting, parade of shelter dogs, Halloween costume contest for pets and owners, bounce house and more. Added just this year: blessing of the pets at 9 a.m., raffle, doggie salon and Glamfur photos, and a demonstration by Denton Police Office Weier and the award-winning K9 Officer Gino.
Retail and food vendors will again be available with great items, and there will be lots of activities for pets, adults and kids. The Halloween Costume Contest will include prizes for the most creative pet costume, the most creative pet/adult themed costume, and the most creative child’s costume.
Registration for the races as well as the 1 Mile Pet Walk is open on-line at www.tailstrails.com Individual registration costs range from $25 to $45 and include a t-shirt. Time chip management is by locally owned Moo Sports. Online registration ends Wednesday, October 17 at midnight but registration is available on site at the day of the event beginning at 6:30 am.
Friendly dogs on leashes are welcome for all activities. Low cost vaccinations and microchips will be provided by Denton Vet Center from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. Cats must be in a carrier.
There is free parking and free admittance to the event for entertainment activities. All proceeds benefit the Denton Animal Shelter.
