Mobile vet–quick, easy, and able to outsmart fearful felines

When you need to get nine cats vaccinated fast, and you don’t have time to haul them all to the vet, who do you call?  Animal Ambulance and Mobile Veterinarian, the only local mobile vet that makes housecalls (at least that we could find!).  Dr. Rachel Roark and her assistant came to the house yesterday and in about 45 minutes everyone got a cursory checkup and rabies vaccination right there in our living room.  Well, except for Slick.  He got his rabies vaccination while hiding behind the toilet in the master bath after fighting and clawing his way out of our grasp.   Thank goodness Dr. Roark is persistent and doesn’t mind working under unusual conditions.  Although to be fair to Slick, he wasn’t the first to get his vaccinations behind a commode somewhere.  Apparently, the toilet trick is all part of being a mobile vet.  Who knew? Trixie got her stitches out yesterday.  She had a cyst removed from her lower eye lid about a week ago and while the vet was at it, he took a small mole off her nose.  Five stitches total, some minor swelling, and then toward the end, as it started to heal, the stitches started to itch.  We comforted and encouraged her by telling her she’d had a mini doggie face lift and would look 10 years younger when it was all over.  That may sound a bit crazy, but I truly believe that our pets understand, if not our words, at least the tone of our voices.  Trixie might not have known what the words “face lift” meant, but she knew it was good, and that kept her spirits upbeat and the moping around to a minimum.
